Moving is stressful no matter what but when you throw technology into the mix it can be downright confusing. Here are a few tips for getting the right web setup before you bring in the boxes and start unpacking in your new home sweet home:

1. Search Before You Move: Well before the moving trucks come, find out what your options are at your new house. Look up wireless internet providers by zip code and research things like cost, speed and plans to find out what deal you want.
2. Get an Appointment: Before you move, call your chosen wireless company to set up an appointment soon after you move in. With it on the books you’ll be forced to get your tech stuff set up and you’ll be up and running without much downtime.
3. Package It: Many providers offer the option to package your technology, usually some combination of internet, phone and TV. This is often the most cost effective option and can make getting your utilities set up in a new home easier than ever.

Computers are beginning to enter into every aspect of most people’s lives. From phones to the internet, many people use computers daily without fully experiencing the complete possibilities of the opportunity because of fear of phishing scams. While these are true threats, there are simple steps to follow to ensure the computer is never a scary machine to use.

First, consider what information you are sharing over the internet and with whom. Most people have heard of phishing scams and identity theft. It is when a website tricks you into sharing account information typically through an email.Additional information can be found at http://www.techburgh.com/2011/10/07/fight-phishing-hooked/. The fear of these can be crippling because it can cause you to never fully take advantage of the internet consumer savings opportunities. To ensure your protection, first always confirm that you are visiting genuine websites. This is easily done by always logging in through your financial institutions main website. Even if links are provided in emails or related areas, always log in through primary home pages. This will avoid the dangers of phishing.

Next, always verify that a padlock symbol appears in the lower corner of your browser when entering sensitive information or check that the browser address listed begins with “https://”.

Everything you do on the internet is tracked from your IP address. Every time you visit a website a cookie is stored on your computer. Many people may wonder, “Is there any way to be looking at the internet without being found?” Well simply put, yes, there is a way. To browse the web without having your IP address tracked you must use a proxy server. You can use a website to block your IP address, or even download a software program onto your computer. Both options are quick and easy.Confused? <a href='http:// pctechmojo.com/1293/simple-strategies-on-find-out-how-to-change-an-ip-deal-with/’>Here ‘s a little help .

The biggest difference between these two options is that a program usually has added tools. Common tools that come with proxy server software are as follows: firewall, tune-up utilities, and sometimes even an added browsing virus protection. The second difference is the price. Programs usually cost a lot more than websites for looking at the internet without being found services. There are however a few free websites that you can purchase to keep yourself hidden while online. To browse the web invisibly simply do the following: search for a proxy server, find one that you can afford, type in the website that you want to use, and go for it!

When you embark on the task of creating a password, you will need to come up with a phrase that is not only easy to remember, but, also safe from falling prey to the many potential threats that lurk in cyberspace. The stronger the password, the more protected you are against hackers and other forms of unauthorized use of the accounts that you utilize from your computer. The strength of a password is determined by two very important components; how easy it is for a hacker to guess, and the number of characters the password contains.

While it may be very easy to create a password based on things that are easily identifiable to you, such as your birth date, your first and last name, or your telephone number, choosing these types of things is highly unrecommended – the primary reason being that crooks can easily guess it and obtain access to your accounts quickly. If you want to use memorable phrase as your password, choose something that makes since to you….and only you. Then, add a few numbers to it. The more characters a password has, the safer it is. In fact, for your safety, many website login applications will only accept the new password you choose if a minimum amount of characters is keyed in – usually six or more.

With all the new technology flying at us, it can be a bit overwhelming trying to decipher this foreign language. Luckily, for the average man, there are technology translators. They may be better known as people explaining what all this tech jargon means. There are countless books to help us with this, but a few that stand out. The one book that can help the most helpless mind with computer repair is Trouble Shooting your PC for Dummies. It is easy to understand with plenty of diagrams for maintaining and repairing slow or under performing computers. One of my other favorites is called Understanding Technology by R.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here. Thomas Wright. This easy to read book give you a very basic understanding of most technology, how to asses and apply technology, and even problem solving involved with technology. Another great book is Wireless networking made easy by Russell Shaw. This is a simple yet informative book on the ins and outs of wireless technology. A great read for any person just starting to learn networking. With the relentless computer attacks lately, security is a need to know technology. An easy way to do this is to read Foundations of Computer Security by David Salomon. Finally, a must read to understanding technology is the Encyclopedia of Computer Science and Technology. This easy to understand book gives information in a very simple language. Technology is not easy to learn, but maybe these books will give you a start.

Computers, and the web, are full of acronyms. A popular acronym you may have come across is ‘URL’. URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. A URL is an address. Just like you have an address which says where you live, web sites have URL’s.

When you see a TV commercial, and it shows a company’s website address, that is a URL. You would enter the URL into the address bar at the top of your web browser.

So, if a URL is an address for web sites, why don’t we just say web address? The answer is, because websites aren’t the only thing which have URL’s. Although the web is by far the most popular part of the internet, there are many other things beyond websites. Chat, audio, video, email and more need to be found. All of these things have URL’s.

URL’s are a friendly address for you to remember. They are (usually) for websites, and can be for other things as well. But wait, where do you find a URL? Your web browser shows the URL in the address bar. The URL of the web page you are currently reading is displayed there.

Now you know what a URL is, and where to find it!

Failing to run anti-virus software is a very common mistake amongst non-technical computer users. More often than not, though, non-technical users will download “free” anti-virus programs from the Internet, opting out of their more expensive retail counterparts. More than half of the time, these “free” anti-virus programs are actually viruses themselves. They can actively tamper with your registry and your system files, rendering your computer virtually useless. Typically speaking, it’s much better to bite the bullet and get yourself a retail product.

Most non-technical users also fail to perform simple routine maintenance on their computers.This/tag helps explain it more. These tasks are not necessarily complex, though they do require a bit of know-how. Defragmenting and clearing out your temporary Internet files are two things that can keep your computer running well over time. If you don’t feel comfortable performing these tasks yourself, then you can get a DVD that will perform them for you.

LCD screens are also common targets of non-technical computer users. Simply put, you should never poke at your LCD screen. Even the slightest amount of pressure can leave you with “dead” pixels that can no longer change color. If you want to point at something, do yourself a favor and use the mouse instead.

It’s seems to be that everyone has started blogging these days, and if you haven’t yet it is something that you should consider doing. Below is everything you need to know to get started with blogging.

The first step to blogging is choosing the platform on which you want to blog. Do you want to host the website yourself or do you want to have somewhere else host it for you? Should you want the website hosted for you, there are many options available; the most popular being Blogger and WordPress.

Once you have decided where your blog is going to be, it is time to think about what you want to blog about. Will you just write whatever comes to mind or will you be offering advice on a specific subject? Knowing what you are writing about will help you to figure out a title for your blog. If you want to interest readers, you will want to title your blog appropriately, so they know what to expect. For example, if your blog was called “The Fishing King” and you wrote about baking, your readers may quickly get confused and not even read what you have to write.

Once you know where you are going to write and what you are going to write about, you are ready to begin blogging. The information party rocks on: (Through the light of day) A poem of lust or is it love? – Guest Blog by Lydie
